Advantages of Being a Published Author

by admin on November 30, 2012

With the advent of self-publishing, it’s now easier than ever to become a published author. The most popular platform you can do this on is CreateSpace, a company owned by Amazon. The costs associated with self-publishing is minimal. On CreateSpace, if you opt for standard distribution and an auto-assigned ISBN, you can publish your book 100% free. It does cost a few bucks for you to receive a physical copy of your book for proofing purposes, but that’s about it.

Self PublishingOf course, writing a book is not an easy task. We started writing our first book in August of 2012, and completed the first manuscript in mid-October. It took just over 2 months. Ironically, putting the book into proper layout (for both Kindle and print), hiring a professional cover designer, proofreading the manuscript, and getting it ready for sale took just as long and caused much more frustration. The question is, is it worth all this trouble?

The answer is “Yes, absolutely!”

And it’s not about the money you can potentially make by selling copies of your book. In fact, even if you don’t sell any books at all, you can still benefit immensely from it. Being a published author gives you a huge boost in credibility and authority that you would otherwise not have. You’re instantly viewed as a trusted “expert” in your industry. This means it’ll be way easier to acquire leads and subsequently convert those leads into sales.

If you don’t have the time to write, edit, and publish a book, you can always hire a ghostwriter. Other related tasks such as cover design, formatting, etc. can all be outsourced as well. The reason we decided to take on everything ourselves is for the sake of education and experience.
