Why your Business Needs a Mobile Optimized Website

Weeks ago, I was at a networking event when someone handed me a very professional business card. We didn’t have time to chat, but I noticed he had his website information listed, so I pulled out my smartphone and keyed in the URL.

Instantly, I was disappointed. The website was not optimized for the small screen on my smartphone and the text was illegible. I had to zoom, scroll, and wait as the website lagged to accommodate. I was only able to explore his site for about 20 seconds before I became too frustrated to continue.

This is the exact same issue that many potential clients will run into when trying to access your website. Regular websites display properly on computer browsers but not on mobile screens, which is why it’s important to have a separate mobile site.

Take a look at the difference:

How most websites appear on the iphone The Average Website

  • Displays incorrectly on mobile device
  • Difficult to read without scrolling and zooming
  • Difficult to navigate
  • Slow loading times
  • No clear call to action
An example of a mobile optimized website Mobile Optimized Website

  • Easily readable on mobile devices
  • Click-to-call button
  • Easy to navigate menu system
  • Fast loading times
  • Automatic mobile detection

Having a mobile site will improve the browsing experience of potential clients who don’t have time to sit down and browse from their desktop computers.  A properly optimized mobile site can drastically improve your lead-to-sale conversion rate.
